Rehabilitation
Our rehabilitation doctors provide expert assessments and treatments to improve your health and function.
Experienced & dedicated rehabilitation doctors
Our rehabilitation doctors are trained to provide in-depth physical (e.g. neurological) examinations with a strong understanding of psychology and societal influences on health.
Our doctors are specialists who have completed at least four years of extra training through the Royal Australasian College of Physicians in addition to medical school and basic hospital training.
Alike Rehabilitation Services
You can see our rehabilitation doctors in person, in your community, or through video calls, depending on your unique needs.
Below are some key things to know about our rehabilitation services.
Comprehensive Reviews:
- You will have a detailed review with a specialist rehabilitation doctor (a Fellow of the RACP).
- You need a referral from your usual GP.
- These appointments will take at least 45 minutes.
- We will send your treatment plan to you, your GP, and any other healthcare providers you choose, like a physiotherapist.
Specialised Procedures:
- Our doctors use ultrasound and other techniques to provide injections for:
- Muscle tone management (for conditions like Cerebral Palsy, Multiple Sclerosis, brain injuries, and spinal cord injuries).
- Injections to relieve excessive sweating, drooling, or local tension. These treatments may come at a higher cost because they are likely not covered by Medicare or the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme. Please see our fees list for more information.
- Joint injections (like for knee bursitis).
Comfort During Procedures:
- We understand that some people find injections difficult.
- We offer options like inhaled, topical, or oral medications to help you feel more comfortable and increase the chances of successful treatment.
- Due to limited availability of anaesthesia or light sedation for these procedures, we provide these medications to improve patient comfort, and thus increase the amount of patients who can be treated.
Consultation Options:
- You can see our rehabilitation doctors in person, in your community, or through video calls, depending on what you need.
Important Note:
- Our rehabilitation doctors do not treat drug and alcohol addiction. This is a separate specialty called Addiction Medicine.
